The Knapp Gallery is pleased and excited to announce the second solo show of innovative and pioneering Philadelphia artist Tom Brady. Brady, a cornerstone artist of The New Philadelphia School, celebrates his 35 years as an established and acclaimed painter with his most stunning and bold works to date. These vibrant paintings will be on display from March 12–April 26, 2009 at the Knapp Gallery in Old City Philadelphia.
While displaying Brady’s iconic style of painting with a sculptural effect, Tom Brady: Recent Works, highlights his ever evolving and discriminating eye. Perpetually breathing new life into the people and places he paints, Brady’s work is continually fresh and engaging. From trucks, to landscapes to everyday people Brady effectively portrays his subject matter in an interesting light.
A result of intense study, each painting is created with a distinct process. Brady plans his final work through a series of pastels, preparing himself for the broad strokes of paint that eventually cut effortlessly across the surface of his canvases. Deceptively simple, Brady’s method is reserved for the patient and calculating old master determined to render his subject truthfully yet provocatively. In the words of Tom Brady, “you paint for thirty years, hope, and pray; and with a little luck, the culmination of the processes has magically taken on a life of its own!”
Tom Brady: Recent Works is a celebration of the best of Tom Brady’s distinct and radical painting style. In tandem with this exhibition, The Knapp Gallery is publishing the first comprehensive book of Tom Brady’s artistic career. Including his recent works, this book will prove to be the utmost authority on this talented artist’s body of work.
Please come join us in celebration of Tom Brady’s 35 years as a mentor and ground breaking artist!
