The Knapp Gallery is pleased and excited to announce an innovative show for the New Year, Tom Brady: Pastels & Jon Eckel: 100 Works on Paper, for the months of January and February.
In the spirit of the New Year, this show will focus on the new artistic perspectives of Tom Brady and Jon Eckel. Exhibiting with the Knapp Gallery since its inception, both painters use this current opportunity to showcase their mastery beyond the brush. This show, demonstrating their talents on paper, transcends previous conceptions of each artist’s skill.
In the tradition of his masterful and sculptural paintings, Tom Brady uses bold and bright colors to give new life to the people and places he represents. His expressionistic style lends itself to the immediacy of pastel, and Brady softens and blends his colors in ways his paintings could not begin to imagine. While they retain Brady’s integrity as a skillful painter, his pastels show another dimension in his daring use of medium.
Jon Eckel, on the other hand, breaks away from his preconceptions as a painter. His works on paper are about simplification. Breaking down the complex and formal qualities of his paintings, Eckel works on a smaller scale, allowing the purity of his line to speak plainly for itself. His figures become simultaneously sweeping and charming; they almost seem to possess and inhabit the paper on which they are rendered.
Please come and join these artists in celebration of their new beginnings; the show will prove unforgettable!
